Cracow: the National Plan of Action meeting

Process of the National Plan of Action preparation is ongoing.
On the 13th of June in Cracow, the meeting organized by the Department of Forestry and Nature Conservationof Ministry of the Environment to elaborate on the National Plan of Action to introduce the biodiversity Protocol to the Carpathian Convention was held.
The representatives of regional governments, environmental institutions, Regional Directorate of State Forests, scientific institutions and non-governmental organizations from all the 3 Carpathian provinces participated in the conference.
During the first speech, Bożena Haczek (Ministry of Environment) presented the substantial content of the Primary Convention concerning preservation and sustainable development of the Carpathian region and its protocol about preservation and sustainable usage of biological and landscape diversity as regulated by the national law.
Afterwards, Zbigniew Niewiadomski (UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre) discussed the legal status and resolutions of the international document accepted in 2011 by the 3rd meeting of the Conference of the Parties, regarding its implementation in the biological diversity scope - Strategic Plan of Action for the preservation and sustainable usage of the biological and landscape diversity protocol.
Furthermore, during the other part of the meeting, the opportunities, benefits, as well as challenges were presented, concerning the National Plan of Action that are to be undertaken by the Polish side (Zbigniew Niewiadomski, UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre) after the approval by the Ministry of the Environment. Moreover, the substantial content and schedule of the preparation phase of the document was proposed (Monika Rusztecka, UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre).
During the discussion, proposals and comments from the participants were collected. Further meetings concerning the National Plan of Action proposal preparation will be organized by Ecopsychology Association and UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre under the "Carpathians Unite - mechanism of consultation and cooperation for implementation of the Carpathian Convention" project. |
